THE 2013 UNIVERSAL DVD Club-sponsored, Berbice Cricket Board-organised first division T/20 competition resumed last Saturday with four rescheduled matches, with all-rounder Devendra Thakurdeen turning in a good all-round performance for Port Mourant Karibee Rice in their victory over Blairmont Community Centre.
He firstly took 2 for 24 from 4 overs with his offspin to help restrict Blairmont to 98 for 5 from their 20 overs despite Deveshwari Prashad scoring 40 (2×6), then returned to open the batting and score an unbeaten 46 (4×4) to steer Port Mourant to a seven-wicket win.
Pacer Omesh Khemraj took 4 for 11 from 4 overs and off-spinner Satrohan Singh 2 for 10 also from 4 overs to help Upper Corentyne skittle out Edinburgh for a paltry 49 in 17.2 overs. In reply they knocked off the target with 8 wickets in hand from 7.2 overs.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets won both matches in their double-header, thanks to Renwick Batson and national all-rounder Rajiv Ivan who made 29 each in their easy 8-wicket win over Police but newcomer D’Edward, led by a good all-round performance from Devendra Lalsa 47 and 2 for 11, made it harder for them in their second fixture of the day.
D’Edward posted 124 for 8 in 20 overs and even though Batson and former Guyana wicketkeeper/batsman Delbert Hicks made 27 each, Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets slipped dangerously to 97 for 7 with just two overs left before former national Under-19 all-rounder Clinton Pestano came to their rescue.
He struck medium pacer Navin Rampersaud for 23 in the 19th over to steer them to a three-wicket victory.
Meanwhile, the match between West Berbice and Bermine had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled due to the soggy condition of Bush Lot ground.
