Tigers record third win with 2-0 victory over Pele, Riddim Squad beat Santos 2-0 : —-Conquerors and Camptown in must win situation tonight

BK Western Tigers recorded their third consecutive victory when they got past Pele 2-0 in the feature game of a double header card in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF), Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Georgetown Zone Premier League tournament at the Tucville ground on Friday night.
The opening game saw Riddim Squad beating Santos 2-0 and as a result they will be facing BK Western Tigers tonight in a crucial fixture, which will see the winning team advancing to the GFF’s 16-team Super League.
Hubert Pedro and Stellon Davis scored for BK Western Tigers in the 15th and 30th minute respectively, while Stephen Ramsey and Lindie Picket registered goals for Riddim Squad in the 10th and 20th minute respectively, versus Santos.
With three consecutive victories to their name, BK Western Tigers will be going all out this evening when they face Riddim Squad in the feature game of a triple header card at the same venue.
The opening game brings together Santos and Pele from 16:00hrs while Riddim Squad and BK Western Tigers face off from 20:00hrs.
In the feature game on Friday night, Pele who made their first appearance in the competition after giving walk over victories to Riddim Squad and Fruta Conquerors started off hesitant allowing the West Ruimveldt based side to make easy inroads into their defence.
On one such occasion, Western Tigers launched an attack from the left side of the field, a shot was taken to goal but the Pele custodian parried it and it went to Pedro on the right side of the goal just outside the Pele’s 18-yard box and Pedro latched onto the ball and executed a powerful right foot shot to target into the second post.
Fifteen minutes later, the inform Davis sent Western Tigers further ahead after a free kick was awarded to his team.
The shot to goal was taken from the left side, but Pele’s custodian did not make a clean save and Davis who was lurking on the right side of the opponents’ goal latched onto it and fired a first time shot that went into the net at second post.
Six teams are contesting the Georgetown Zone play-off with the top three joining Alpha United and Guyana Defence Force in the GFF’s 16-team Super League, which kicks off on October 6.
The GFF’s Super League will be contested by its affiliates with Linden being represented by Milerock, Silver Shattas and Winners Connection, Berbice by Rosignol United and New Amsterdam United, East Coast by Buxton United and BV/Triumph United, West Demerara by Den Amstel and Young Achievers.
There will be a play-off between Essequibo, East Bank and Bartica, with the winning team making up the 16th team.
At stake in the competition is $3M, while the second, third and fourth place teams will earn $2M, $1M and $500,000 respectively.
