CENTRAL Government, through the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 1 handed over a 15-horsepower Yamaha engine to the St. Nicholas Primary School at Manawarin, Region 1 on Wednesday.
The region’s Vice Chairman, Fermin Singh explained that the engine will be used to power a boat to transport children of far-off communities, to and from school so that they will be able to attend classes more regularly and punctually.
The engine was handed over to the District Education Officer, Ignatius Adams who in turn presented it to the head teacher of the school. It will be managed by the Parent Teachers Association (PTA). The school is also in the process of acquiring funds to purchase a boat.
The Government of Guyana through the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development or the regional administration has been providing such transportation to assist residents especially in riverine areas.
