REGION 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud has said the situation, where mud is dumped on the surface of the public road at Sparta on the Essequibo Coast during the rainy season, will change because of interventions to correct the situation by the Regional Administration.
He said the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Administration, through the Water Users Association, has constructed a section of the dam from the edge of the public road with sand and loam.
After inspecting the construction, Persaud said the project was executed by local contractor Vish Turbo and the Regional Administration provided 60 loads of loam for the purpose.
The dam will benefit farmers of Sparta and Windsor Castle, some of whom also built an additional section with sand and loam, using their own resources.
Over the years, the path had deteriorated very badly and became muddy during the rainy seasons, causing tractors to dump mud on the surface of the public road and create serious problems for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.
