He pleaded guilty to the offence before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, admitting that on Sunday, September 8, in Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of 72-year-old Lillian Cummings with that intention.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the Court that, around 20:30 hrs that night, the septuagenarian secured her home and went to sleep.
A while after, she was awakened by the scream of her 16-year-old granddaughter and, on rushing to the girl’s room, she saw the defendant standing over the teenager. But he jumped through a window and escaped.
Andrews acknowledged that it was wrong for him to commit such an offence and apologised for it.
The Chief Magistrate said she took several mitigating factors into consideration before handing down the sentence, including the defendant’s plea.
But the aggravating factors were the seriousness, the tender age of the girl and the emotional trauma caused her and her grandmother.
