THE Housing Ministry plans to execute eight more ‘One Stop Shops’, in various parts of the country, before the end of this year,
Minister with the portfolio, Mr. Irfaan Ali made the announcement when the ministry conducted its second such exercise for this year at its Brickdam, Georgetown office yesterday.
The eight other exercises would provide approximately 6,000 new lots at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast; Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo; De Willem, West Coast Demerara; Covent Garden, Providence and Farm, the last three on East Bank Demerara.
Yesterday the ministry allotted 85 new houselots in Zeelugt Phase Two, with infrastructure that cost the Government $90.5M.
According to the minister, Government will soon be making another investment of $220M at Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara, to make available 300 new lots.
Meanwhile, he said road works would also be carried out at Zeelugt, Zeeburg and Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara and Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, where some 2,500 people would be the beneficiaries of the $600M cost.
Other major ongoing undertakings at La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, for this year, would be the ongoing works that will cost $3 billion, Ali said.
He added that the alternative access road in this area, which is, currently, 60 percent complete, would also be finished with the expenditure of $400M.
Coming on stream, as well, would be the upgrade of the West Demerara Public Road, which is a joint initiative between Government and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Minister Ali disclosed.
