Tigers beat Conquerors 2-0, Camptown and Santos play to 0-0 draw … Pele no show for match against Riddim Squad

BK Western Tigers beat Fruta Conquerors 2-0 while Camptown and Santos played to a 0-0 stalemate when action in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Georgetown Zone Premier League competition got under way on Sunday night at the Tucville ground.

The feature match that was scheduled to be played between Pele and Riddim Squad did not take place because of the non-appearance of the Pele team.
After a goalless first half in the opening match on Sunday, Trevon Lythcott  sent the West Ruimveldt-based team into the lead with a 73rd minute goal and seven minutes later, Randolph Wagner made the score 2-0.
Despite some spirited plays by the home team, Fruta Conquerors, their many attacks on the opposition goal went wide of the mark.
The competition will continue tomorrow at the same venue with a double-header that will bring together Camptown and BK Western Tigers from 18:00hrs and Pele and Fruta Conquerors from 20:00hrs.
According to GFA vice-president of the Competitions Committee, Mark Phillips, the GFA executives will meet shortly to decide the fate of Pele who he said knew they were down to play Riddim Squad on Sunday.
The Georgetown Zone competition involves six teams that will play each other for a chance of qualifying among the top three for the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Premier Cup competition.
Alpha United and the Guyana Defence Force have been awarded automatic spots following Alpha United’s triumph in the GFF’s Super League 2012/2013 season.
GDF, on the other hand, won the GFA’s President Beer League 2013.
Phillips told Chronicle Sport that the Pele team claimed that they do not have to play for a chance of qualifying, since they know that they have already qualified.
