It was disclosed at a press conference at the EPA boardroom, Sophia, Georgetown, that the United Nations has designated the year 2013 as the Year of Water and the GFW has decided to fit this theme into Guyana Fashion Week, according to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GFW Sonia Noel.

At the press conference Director, Education, Information and Training of the EPA, Sharifah Razack noted that the EPA welcomes the GFW to observe this week with them. She further stated that water is very important and “often times we take water lightly and there needs to be more education on the uses and importance of water.”

There will be an overnight trip for two at Baganara for the winning photographer, Courts will be presenting a camera to the winning designer and a day at the Jiva is on offer for the winner of the spoken word competition. All winners will receive trophies from Trophy Stall and Digicel will also be giving handsets. Designers will be receiving fabric vouchers and Impressions will be sponsoring the T- shirts for the motorcade.
There will be a Water Motorcade today from the Water Chris Hotel and it will proceed to the Square of the Revolution.
Meanwhile, Director of Guyana Fashion Week 2013, Richard Young is inviting everyone to join the EPA and GFW on Sunday, August 8 when the curtains will come down for the week’s observance.

World Water Week is hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). The World Water Week has been the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues since 1991.
Every year, over 200 collaborating organisations convene events during World Water Week. In addition, individuals from around the globe present their findings at scientific workshops. Each year the World Water Week addresses a particular theme to enable a deeper examination of a specific water-related topic. While not all events during the week relate to the overall theme, the workshops driven by the Scientific Programme Committee and many seminars and side events do focus on various aspects of the theme. The 2013 theme is “Water Cooperation – Building Partnerships”.
