FOURTEEN rice farmers’ children from different rice producing regions in the country were awarded at the Guyana Rice Development Board’s annual Bursary Award ceremony for their outstanding performance at the 2013 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examination.
The ceremony was held at the board’s head office in Kingston, Georgetown to celebrate and honour children of rice farmers and millers whose performances were above average. The students with the highest grades at the examination were selected with five students being chosen from Region 6, four from Region 2, two from Region 4, one from Region 3 and two from Region5.
Vice-chairman of the rice board, Dharamkumar Seeraj congratulated the children and charged them to be victorious in every goal that they set. He stated that it is the ‘bright minds’ that will harness the revolution in a country. He also expressed his hopes that the board’s ‘token of appreciation’ would be an inspiration for the students to climb greater heights.
The award ceremony is part of the foundation of the GRDB since it commenced operations in 1995 and the board continues to give support to rice farmers’ children who are eligible.
Speaking also at the ceremony was GRDB General Manager Jagnarine Singh and Deputy General Manager Ricky Ramraj.
