Man to serve term of imprisonment for assaulting and threatening to kill sister

CHRISTOPHER Hemraj of Coburg Street, New Amsterdam, who allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill his sister after she returned home at 05:30hrs on July 25 last, was sentenced to a total of two months imprisonment by Magistrate Rhondel Weaver at the New Amsterdam court.

Police prosecutor Corporal Racquel Mars informed the court that twenty-three-year-old Christine Hemraj had left the family home the previous night, but on returning home during the wee hours of the following day, her brother became annoyed and slapped her across the face whilst threatening to kill her.
She fled the home and reported the incident at Central Police Station, a stone’s throw away, and charges of assault and threatening language were instituted against Christopher Hemraj.
Pleading guilty to the charges, Hemraj was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on each charge, to run concurrently.
