Man remanded for false pretense

43-year-old Ronald Sanders (no address given) was remanded to prison on a false pretense charge, yesterday, when before Magistrate Ann McLennan he appeared to answer to the charge which stated that on Monday, July 29, at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he obtained the sum of $30,000 by falsely pretending to purchase a Blackberry cellular phone at Bourda market for Terry Rabilall.

The accused informed the court that he is a cook in the interior.

Police Corporal Dinero Jones, prosecuting, objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant gave his address as La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank, Demerara; and since he works in the interior, he may not return for his trial. He added that the money was not recovered by the virtual complainant (VC).

Bail was refused and the matter stands adjourned until September 12.
