NEW Amsterdam Magistrate Rhondel Weaver on Monday placed pharmaceutical salesman Sunarine Ganesh of Lot 527 Block 8, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara on $25,000 bail after he appeared in court to answer a charge of having received 18 bottles of insulin, knowing same to have been stolen from the Ministry of Health.
Ganesh was among three other persons who were previously charged with the related theft of 220 bottles of insulin, allegedly stolen from the New Amsterdam Hospital. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of receiving stolen property, and is expected to attend the Albion Magistrate’s Court on August 29 for statements and fixture.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sherriff, prosecuting, said that on July 27 last the defendant received from Ambo Lees 18 bottles of insulin valued at $40,000, knowing same to have been stolen; but Attorney-at-law Mursalene Bacchus informed the court that the prosecution would have some difficulty, because the virtual complainant had been charged with receiving stolen goods.
Last week, Ambo Lees, was charged with receiving from Joel Davidson 220 bottles of insulin, valued at $745,580, knowing same to have been the stolen property of the Ministry of Health.
Additionally, Michael Anthony Wharton and Joel Davidson each face a joint charge of break and enter and larceny allegedly committed on the New Amsterdam Hospital, from where 304 litres of insulin had been removed.
Their cases will also be heard on August 28 at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
