Man fined $60,000 for abusing and threatening his father

A 26-year-old man of De Abreau Street in Newtown, Kitty was fined $60,000 yesterday on three counts of abusing and threatening his father.

Kevin Byno, before Magistrate Judy Latchman, admitted to three charges that said on Tuesday, August 6 he behaved disorderly.
The second offence stated that on the same day, also in Newtown Kitty, he made use of abusive language to Morris Byno, (his father) whereby a breach of the peace may be occasioned.
In addition, on the same day at the same location, he also made use of threatening language to his father.
Police Sergeant Vishnu, prosecuting, told the court that the defendant and the Virtual Complainant (VC) are father and son living at the same address as stated in the charge. On the day in question around 10:00 hrs the son and his reputed wife had a misunderstanding and after being spoken to by his father he became annoyed and started to abuse him and threatened to set the house on fire. The matter was reported and he was subsequently arrested.

The father explained that it is a domestic matter and they had bought the house for Kevin and are on holiday with him. He added that on that day Kevin’s reputed wife along with his mother and brother went to the gym. After they returned, Kevin started to abuse his wife because she did not do the laundry. After he confronted him, Kevin started to yell boisterously and his father told him that if he wants to stay in the house he will have to adhere to the rules or he would have to leave.
The defendant told the court that he has no prior or pending matters and is self-employed in the laundry business.
Kevin Byno was fined $20,000 on each charge and bonded to keep the peace for 12 months and he also has to attend counselling sessions ordered by Magistrate Latchman.
