Bond clerk jailed for 36 months for break & enter and larceny

GEORGETOWN Magistrate Judy Latchman has sentenced 36-year-old Kei-Shar’s bond clerk Evanda Spencer (no address given) to 36 months’ imprisonment on a break and enter and larceny charge.

Spencer pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that between July 31 and August 2, at Lot 269 Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, he, in company of others, broke and enter the dwelling house of Kendra Keza and stole several items valued at $1,404,200.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question, the victim secured her Lot 269 Meadow Brook Gardens home by the means of leaving everything intact. On Friday, August 2, four ranks from the rural constabulary were on patrol duty when they saw the defendant on a bicycle with two suitcases, and three other men on bicycle also with other items.
The police challenged them and apprehended the defendant, but the others managed to escape. He confessed to the crime and possession of the article, the virtual complainant (VC) was contacted, and the following items and articles mentioned in the charge were missing: 5 bed spreads, 3 bathrobes, 6 bath towels, 1 microwave, 1 desktop computer, 4 perfumes, 1 pair costume jewellery (bangles), 1 pair boots, 8 jeans, 7 tops, etc, all of which she indentified and which were found on the defendant.
The defendant expressed remorse for his actions and said he was misled by others.
Magistrate Latchman took into consideration the fact that Spencer pleaded guilty at first opportunity, and did not waste the court’s time. She also considered the prevalence of the type of offence in today’s society before handing down her sentence.
