ONCE again and for the fourth successive year, Ansa McAl, using their Smalta brand, continued its relationship with the Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic, following the presentation of a cheque for an undisclosed sum at the company’s headquarters at Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara last Tuesday.
Since the inaugural championships in 2010, Ansa McAl, along with several other business entities within Corporate Guyana, has been a main contributor, according to Edison Jefford, co-founder of the classic, after he received the cheque from Public Relations Officer of Ansa McAl, Darshanie Yusuf.
“I would like to express sincere gratitude to Ansa McAl … they have been with us from 2010 and it is their support that has helped us to grow into the mega event that the Boyce/Jefford is today. Their support has been widespread and it is unmatched,” Jefford stated during the simple handing-over ceremony.
Yusuf expressed her appreciation on behalf of the company for being part of the event, adding that she would love to see it move across Guyana as well.
“It is a great opportunity to be onboard not only because it is a good tournament for athletics but it is a tournament that we see results from. We hope that the event doesn’t stay in Georgetown and Linden alone, but will move all across Guyana,” Yusuf stated at the handing-over ceremony.
This year’s edition will be held on August 17 and 18 at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, and the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden respectively, with the top clubs vying for the top prize of $500 000 while the international races will see the winner walking away with $50 000.
