Address concerns of citizens

I WISH to commend Minister Clement Rohee for his openness in saying that the PPP paid the price at the last polls for neglecting the groundwork of the party where thousands of supporters stayed away on elections day 2011 for several reasons that allowed the APNU and AFC to have a one-seat majority in the National Assembly.

As a supporter of the PPP in Region 2, it is hard to erase from the minds of the people the wrongs that the PNC had done during their 28 years of rigging and mismanagement of the country. However, Minister Rohee is fully aware that some 11,000 people stayed away from voting on elections day on the Essequibo Coast and in The Pomeroon because those at the top used dictatorship and put individuals into positions, which was the biggest mistake that produced dismal results.
I appreciated that Mr. Rohee made some very serious assessments by identifying the mistakes the party made. But those same mistakes are allowed to continue to multiply in Region 2, which was a strong PPP region. Now, a dictator as chairman has caused the standards and principles of the PPP party’s morals to be at the lowest stage ever in its history due to negligence from the top.
However, Mr. Rohee mentioned ways to address issues with work on the ground, painstaking work, steady work and, more so, reconnecting with people who have difficulties, which are very good suggestions and proposals. But there is a big concern in Region 2 for the implementation of those proposals, because of a dictator as chairman with an attitude; as well as practices of victimisation, as well as management methods of dishonesty and lies.
So Mr. Rohee has outlined some of the mistakes, and he also must mention cover- ups, listening to gossip, and friends who are untouchable. For example, the regional chairman has created a bad image of the party where the vision of Dr. Jagan’s legacy on the Essequibo Coast and The Pomeroon has been eroded.
Everywhere at Charity, Anna Regina and Supenaam, people want to know what action has been taken against the regional chairman for his involvement in the ticket corruption at the last Essequibo Night activities at the Anna Regina Comunity Centre Ground, and the bigger issues with The Pomeroon boat accident where people lost their lives, where the chairman (allegedly) allowed the operator of the boat he was in to speed away.
So these are some of the issues that Mr. Rohee should bring up at the upcoming party Congress, since people are getting more and more frustrated and are distancing themselves from the party in relation to the leadership qualities and behavioural patterns of the regional chairman with regard to mistakes and issues that are of concern, which cause victimisation and hatred against those who speak out.
