Town clerk enters City Hall compound to torrent of abuse from vendors

THE Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown, along with other political activists who saw it fit to engage vendors and some staff of the administration, yesterday publicly threatened to take to the streets of Georgetown and shut down the city if acting Town Clerk Carol Sooba is not removed from her present position.

The council called the vendors to a meeting yesterday in the compound of City Hall, while former Georgetown mayor Mr. Ranwell Jordan; Working People’s Alliance (WPA) member Dr David Hinds; and People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) member Mr. Oscar Clarke were among others who used a PA system to publicly insult the town clerk and call for her removal.

The vendors who came in support of the council indicated a willingness to do whatever they can to make sure that Carol Sooba is prevented from reaching her office on a daily basis.

When the town clerk entered the City Hall compound, those gathered rushed up to her, hurling such abuse and using such indecent language as to force her to leave the premises.
The town clerk was unavailable for comment regarding the matter, but when asked yesterday, LGRD Minister Ganga Persaud claimed he was unaware of the incident, and he promised to investigate and deal with it later.
