Voir dire dominates day two of Lusignan murder trial

THE second day of the Lusignan murder trial yesterday was devoted to holding a voir dire (a trial within a trial) which, although completed and the press is aware of the outcome, the result cannot be published, since the press was not allowed to sit in at the voir dire.

Justice Navindra Singh, in disclosing that the trial would continue this morning, reminded the jury to walk with books to read, since there would likely be another voir dire held this afternoon.
The mixed jury yesterday heard details about the day when bandits riddled the Lusignan community with bullets, killing 11 persons, five of whom were children.
Mark Royden Williams, called ‘Smallie’; & James Anthony Hyles, called ‘Sally’, are indicted with those murders. Prosecution witness Durwin Wright identified both accused at the trial on Tuesday, and claimed that the number 2 accused, ‘Sally’, had visited him at his home while Channel 11 was showing the massacre, and had confessed that he had participated in the killings.
According to Wright, who claims to be in protective custody, the accused had told him, “If you were there, you would have been able to shoot someone.”

Those named by the prosecution as allegedly killed in the massacre are:
(1) Shazim Mohamed, also known as Shazam Mohamed. This 22-year- old had sustained three gunshot injuries.
