CHAIRMAN of the Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Sharma Solomon has said it was most unfortunate that a worker, hired by the Regional Administration for the Independence celebrations, was not afforded proper accommodation.
He expressed his regret when responding to a letter in yesterday’s Stabroek News captioned ‘Worker hired by Region 10 not given proper accommodation.’
Solomon spoke by telephone to the Guyana Chronicle, in response to Frank Fyffe, who described the troubles of the person who travelled to the region to assist in the preparations and was poorly treated.
The Chairman said it was the only incident of its kind and an apology was made to the individual after the Administration learned of what the man was put through.
Another official of the RDC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed that he and a team went to inspect the building where the man would have had to stay for a number of days.
However, events did not go as planned and, apparently, the place was not cleared for the individual’s living purposes.
The official said this is the first time, over the years, that anyone has ever had need to complain.
But he declared that pressing the matter, as Fyffe did and trying to point out that dirty politics was involved, is pushing it far beyond actuality.
