WHAT might have been careless driving at around 14:30hrs yesterday led to an unknown truck driver swerving off the Number 44 Village Corentyne, Berbice, public road and toppling into a canal.

Nearby residents say that they were all watching the West Indies vs Pakistan cricket match on television, when they heard the crash and by the time they ventured out of their houses to investigate, there was no one in or out of the truck which was laden with several bags of rice.
Spots of blood were visible on the roadside while a few bags of rice had fallen from the vehicle.
There were tyre marks on the road leading to where the truck had run into the canal
Residents have since contacted the police.
