BEI eclipse Canje Secondary 5-3 in Digicel Schools Football Championship

THE MOST exciting game so far in the Region 6 leg of the Digicel Schools Football championship was played yesterday between arch-rivals Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) and Canje Secondary School (CSS) at the Scott’s School ground.

The enthralling encounter saw BEI secure a tense 5-3 win after a late assault by the Canje lads that kept their opponents on their heels.
BEI launched an early attack and secured their first goal off the boot of Jason Drakes in the 5th minute, followed by Gary Solomon’s first of two goals in the 22nd minute. Quacy Reid retaliated in the 29th minute for CSS; Gary Solomon then responded in the 34th minute.
Omari Benton then left the goal and took the outfield for BEI and, it yielded immediate results in the 45th minute when he netted one past his opposite number to give his team a lead, which was extended when Troy Munroe booted one past the CSS goalie in the 56th minute.
Boasting a 5-1 lead after the 75th minute, the BEI lads, allowed complacency to overcome their game and CSS wasted no time in launching a fierce attack with immediate success; Jamal Benjamin netted a double in the 77th and 81st minutes and kept possession of the ball until the final whistle blew.  (Michael Khan)
