Housing Ministry secures deals for ‘1000 Homes’ owners

MIDDLE to low-income house owners are set to benefit from a potential partnership between the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) and the furniture giant, COURTS (Guyana) Inc. This is because the CH&PA is, currently, in discussions with COURTS to have a special line of furniture made available to the intended beneficiaries, Minister of Housing and Water, Mr. Irfaan Ali announced at the recent launch of the ‘1000 Homes Project’.
Themed ‘Live the Guyanese Dream-Home ownership made easier’, the scheme is located East of the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
In making the announcement, the minister said it is due to the fact that the ministry has been able to transform itself into one entity with many branches and consolidate its partnership with various segments of the private sector to benefit homeowners.
He said the ministry has partnered with financial institutions, hardware stores, contractors, suppliers of goods and services, all to support the homeowning process.
Ali explained that the partnerships are geared towards ensuring added value for housing remains local and that the benefits from the programme continue to expand and open up the economy.
He said the ministry is consolidating its partnering, supported by National Hardware to facilitate low, moderate and middle- income families to acquire, at wholesale prices, building materials and home furnishings.
There is a similar agreement with Harris Paints, through which low and middle-income earners, staff of the ministry and contractors working on the ‘turn-key’ houses are benefiting from a price discount of seven percent on paints.
