FIVE local fashion designers will showcase their lines of clothing at the much anticipated fashion show ‘FIT ME 2013’ at Umana Yana on June 30th. Collections by Derek Moore, Pat Coates, Andrea Braithwaite, Carol Fraser and Marcia De Santos will feature a palette of color and designs of functional as well as aesthetically pleasing apparel and accessories at the show.

The show, starting at 20:00 hrs, will also serve as the occasion for an official announcement on the registration of the Guyana Fashion Designers Council (GFDC) which is intended to be the umbrella organisation for local fashion designers, organizer, Mr. Derek Moore recently disclosed.
 
Fashion designers are members of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA), and through the Council, local designers are soon to be beneficiaries of the GMSA’s successful request for funding from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) of the European Union (EU) for this category of its membership.
 
The formation of the Council is one of the requirements for access to the GMSA secured grant which is being channeled through the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA).
 
Designers who are members or who join the GFDC will benefit from the membership, Moore said.
 
Grant funds will be used to fund capacity building activities for operators in the local fashion industry, including training by professionals from overseas and visits by locals to centres overseas for relevant exposure.
 
The ‘FIT ME 2013’ show, Moore said, is geared to provide fashion lovers and other Guyanese with an opportunity to see styles and fashion that can meet different needs.
 
It is intended that after the event, Guyanese fashion lovers will be able to identify which of the local fashion designers can best fit their taste and style and peculiar shapes and curves, Moore added.
