After visiting and observing the medical care being administered there, Edghill was moved to commend the efforts being made. “I want to take the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Ryasat, you and your team for providing expert medical attention. That is why you exist anyhow; you have to make things go right. Accidents are not something we anticipate but we have to live with them. Please continue to do whatever you can do to make him comfortable and fully recovered. Prime Minister Hinds has sent his highest regards and as a representative of government I have an interest, so full recovery is what we are praying for,” Edghill said.
He also noted that while accidents of such a serious nature occurred in this part of the country, the hospital in Linden has been able to provide expert medical attention to the injured and that is testimony to the improvement that has come to the medical services in the country, especially at the regional level.
Dr. Ryasat, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the LHC, had earlier briefed the media. He said, “We have received two of the injured from the accident that took place yesterday (Thursday). Both patients are stable at the moment. Right now, as we speak, we are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Mackenzie Hospital are at the bedside of one of our patients who has extreme bladder injuries and was taken to the operating theatre yesterday evening and came out last night. Since then we have him in the ICU of the Mackenzie Hospital and he is recovering really fast and we are all happy at the rate of recovery actually. So whereas, as before, there was like blood in the urine bag, now it is a lot clearer, a lot better. He is fully stable (and) the vitals are so far normal and we are keeping a close eye on him, monitoring him and we are informing the officials at BOSAI, and the Ministry of Health, on his condition periodically. So other doctors who are working on the patients, they are quite happy about the evolution of the patients so far.”
He explained further, “The team of doctors consists of Dr. Hu, who is a consultant on surgery, Dr. Mohammed, he is a general practitioner but is now in training in surgery, and myself, the superintendent and surgeon in obstetrics and general surgery. We are all involved in the surgery itself and now post-surgical treatment and management of this patient. We are really happy that we could have kept him here and provide the surgery and provide the post-operative care and the management so far. And it shows, like Minister Edghill, said there is quite a lot of improvement with regard to monitoring so critical a patient right here in Linden at the Mackenzie Hospital.”
