MS. SANDY Jackman, 23, called “Sugar Boy”, of Lot 64 Sixth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, has been hospitalized at the GPHC for acid burns she sustained to her face and body Friday.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 20:00hrs, while she was sitting at the corner of Cummings and Sixth Streets, Alberttown, and using her cell phone to send a text message.
According to her mother, who sells from a stand in the area where they live, at around 20:00hrs on the night in question, Sandy passed her and went to sit at the corner; and while she was using her cell phone, two unidentified males accosted her and threw acid in her face.
Sandy’s mother said she heard her daughter calling out for her a mere few minutes after she had passed, and she immediately knew that something was wrong; so she ran towards Sandy, who told her,
“Look what somebody did to me! Mommy you know that I don’t trouble anyone!”
Sandy’s mother then located a car to take Sandy to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). She noted that Sandy could not identify her attackers, but had managed only to see two males riding off on a bicycle.
While at the Guyana Chronicle, Sandy’s mother said Sandy has no problem with anyone, according to her knowledge; but she did mention that her daughter was with a friend on Friday evening, who disappeared immediately after the incident. Sandy’s mother said she has since not seen the friend, but would like to see her to find out what had really happen on Friday night.
Several reports have been made at the Alberttown Police Station, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident. Sandy’s mother is hoping that the perpetrators would soon be brought to justice.
