Sahai cops Essequibo leg of Banks Premium Cue pools competition cue

POPULAR pools player Bridgemohan Sahai won the Essequibo leg of the Banks Premium Cue Pools Competition held recently at Senon Bar in Charity.

The competition which attracted over 95 players and contested over three weekends saw Sahai take the top prize of $60 000 and earn a chance to compete with other winners in a National playoff.
Sahai had made his intentions clear when, prior to the start of the Essequibo leg, he had won a warm-up contest that was held in preparations for this competition.
He was handsomely rewarded with several cases of beer. However, in this competition it was evident that he was very motivated and wanted to make it clear that his classic victory in the warm-up contest was no fluke.
Chief Stewart of the competition, Diyanand Chetram aka Dave, told Chronicle Sport that the competition was highly competed and he was very pleased with the response from both players and spectators. He said that many persons expressed a desire for such competitions to be held regularly noting that it is a positive avenue to engage the many youths in Essequibo.
“We realised that based on the overwhelming response persons would like to see such competitions held regularly. However Banks has indicated that the competition is an annual affair,” Chetram said.
He said that there were several very talented players noting that the competition was very stiff and at the end of the day the top three places were occupied by Sahai, with Andy Persaud and Birda Bishram second and third respectively. For their efforts both Persaud and Bishram would receive $40 000 and $20 000 respectively.
Chetram said that Sahai was able to prove his dominance as he was capable of holding his nerves despite the building of intensity and tension. He said that the support shown by the public in Essequibo should be commended noting that the public eagerly supported and followed the competition.
While there was a female category for the competition it was reported that no female entered thus resulting in no competition being held.
“We held the competition over three venues and I must say that at each of the venue the support was great and I would like to say thanks to all who came out and supported us,” he said.
He expressed the view that Essequibo’s representative would do well in the national playoffs which will be held later in the year. (Andre Nelson)
