M&CC collects on rates budgeted for 2013

THE Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) says it is continuing to encourage property owners to pay up their rates and taxes as this is vital in order that the council can provide the necessary services to citizens.

The Council said in a press statement Friday that it has so far collected 42% of the total amount of rates ($1.4billion) budgeted for 2013.
It said the Council’s debt collection team is in the process of distributing demand notices in different sections of Georgetown, including North and South Cummingsburg and Alberttown.
“According to the Municipal and District Councils Act, Chapter 28:01, Section 213 (1), the rates due in respect of a general rate shall be payable in four equal instalments which shall become due on the first day of February or on the day of service of the demand note, whichever day is later, the first day of April, the first day of July and the first day of October,” M&CC said.
