JUSTICE James Bovell-Drakes and a mixed jury at the Demerara Assizes, yesterday, heard that the accused Romo Andrews, in the Sophia murder trial, had predicted that “Parvie got to dead tonight.”
The owner of a shop at North Sophia, Rayan Mars called ‘Buckie’, at whose shop the trouble started on August 16th 2009 was giving evidence for the prosecution when she related: “That night I was at my shop. The television was on. Andrew Thomas, called ‘Parvie’, now deceased was standing in front of the door when someone remarked that Romo was blocking the view of others.
“On hearing this, an argument erupted between the accused and the deceased.” The accused who it is said was armed with a brick and a knife was heard to be hurling indecent language at Thomas and pelting him with bricks.
The witness who sells black pudding, potato balls and souse said that the accused had bought four potato balls from her that evening.
According to her, she had known the accused and the deceased for about 18 years.
Recounting what happened that day, she said that Romo had purchased a cigarette and stood in front of the door, when Andrew Thomas turned to him and said that he was blocking his view.
Romo asked Thomas: “Is this a f…..g problem? You always f…… at me, you gon stop f…… at me as from today.”
The witness said that she later heard a splash and when she looked through the back window of the shop she saw Thomas holding the left side of his stomach and shouting, “Oh God Buckie and Joe Bryan, please call a car to take me to hospital – this man just bore me.”
The witness said further that “Romo was heard to say, even if the car comes, “he got to dead tonight.”
The Court was told that relatives of Thomas took him to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Cross-examined by Mr. Huckumchand for the accused, the witness admitted that she did not see the accused nor anyone else stab the deceased.
