‘Terrorist’ Colin Jones convicted of Health Ministry 2009 arson

COLIN Jones, charged with the 2009 burning of the Ministry of Health in Georgetown, was found guilty yesterday, by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

altHe will be sentenced on June 27.
The Ministry of Health complex on Brickdam was gutted by the fire which started around 03:00hrs on November 4, 2009.
The blaze destroyed the office of then Health Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, as well as those of other senior officials.

Jones, with alleged accomplices Randy Mars, Basil Morgan, Anthony Watson and Jahfar Simpson, were jointly accused of the November 2009 arson.
Jones, according to police reports, was a member of a heavily-armed ‘terrorist’ gang that in November 2009 carried out a series of shock attacks that left one person dead and two policemen nursing gunshot wounds.
The gang of men had opened fire on the Brickdam police station, attempted to burn down the Georgetown Supreme Court and the Richard Ishmael Secondary School.
