Duo found with woman’s $300,000 gold chain after High Street snatch

JASON Lawrence, 20, of Lot 7 Broad Street, Charlestown and Jonathan Sudhoo (no address given), yesterday, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry to answer a joint charge of larceny from the person.

They both pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that on Friday, May 31, on High Street, Georgetown, they stole from Odetta Greene one  gold chain worth $300,000.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that the virtual complainant (VC) was walking on High Street, heading north when the number one defendant (Lawrence) snatched the article and ran away heading in a  southern direction.
A police officer saw when the robbery took place and  went to the home of Sudhoo, where both defendants were located along with the gold chain in their possession. They were told of the allegations and later arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat who represented Lawrence explained that no identification parade was done.
He stated that the offence was committed by the other defendant but the allegations are being imposed on his client.
Prosecutor Pindar successfully objected to bail for both defendants while noting that Sudhoo has a pending matter of robbery under arms in another court.
Bail was refused for both defendants and the case will be called again on June 7.
