National Guinness Greatest of the Street… : Hunt for Guyana’s Greatest commences : …Action rescheduled to today

THE highly anticipated, long awaited, National Guinness Greatest of the Street Football Competition kicked off on Friday night with eight highly competitive matches at the Banks DIH Parking Lot, where it was too close to decide which team would be favourites.

It was a cold night of football on the tarmac, with some torrential rainfall during the action, but all the matches were completed. The venue was designed to ensure an outstanding atmosphere despite the inclement weather.

Tonight the action continues from 20:00hrs; due to the bad weather yesterday, last evening’s proceedings were rescheduled to today. However, the grand finale will take place tomorrow as scheduled.

The prelims wrap up today as Bartica’s Hard Core tackles East Coast’s Victoria Church Yard in the first match, then Plaisance faces Millennium, Linden’s Silent Assassins battle with Back Circle, and Leopold Street takes on Silver Bullets.

On Friday night Silver Bullets defeated Hard Core 3 – 1 in the first match as Nigel Bennette (5th), Robin Adams (11th) and Terry Gilbert (25th) scored for the victors while Andre Stoby scored for the opposition.

Victoria Church Yard sank Leopold Street 2 – 0 with goals from Ryan Morrison (13th) and Keron Simon (16th).

Goals from Andy Duke (6th and 9th) and Wayne Wilson (4th) for Back Circle, was enough to sweep Millennium.

A double from Collie Hercules (7th and 14th) ensured a 2 – 1 Silent Assassins win over Millennium. Jermaine Christian pulled one back for Millennium in the 19th minute but they ran out of time during their search for the equalizer.

Leopold Street’s O’Kenny Fraser and Plaisance’s Warren Gilkes were the goal scorers in the needle victories over Hard Core and Back Circle, respectively.

Silver Bullets defeated Victoria Church Yard 2 – 1 on penalty kicks after being deadlocked at nil all throughout the match.

Silent Assassin defeated Plaisance 3 – 2 on penalty kicks following a 1 – 1 deadlock at full time. Hercules scored for Assassins in the third minute while Kester Green scored for the opposition in the seventh minute.
