JUST last week, Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB) vice-president Anil Beharry made an appeal to Corporate Guyana, asking for their support in order to make this Sunday’s BCB/Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC)-organised second annual Independence Cup T20 one-day championships, a success.
Two business entities, E-Networks Incorporated and Demerara Bank Limited, (DBL) who both have branches in theAncient County of Berbice, heard his pleas and decided tojoin hands with

the organisers to host the popular Guyana’s Independence T20 Cup to be held at the historic Albion Sports Complex ground.
At a simple presentation ceremony done at E-Networks Inc. Port Mourant-based office, Office Manager Janette Seepersaud said her company is delighted to be part of the sponsorship of this tournament, adding the entity has always been a partner in sports especially when it involves young people in meaningful extracurricular activities.
She continued by saying, “Young people’s personal development is very important for a country’s development. Over the years, E-Networks has supported sporting activities such as cricket, biking, motor racing, tennis etc.
As a matter of fact, some of the company’s employees are national players in some of the above sports and the company opened its door only recently in Berbice and the support is overwhelming. Their presence is felt in many homes, offices and clubs by providing a dependable Cable TV series. “
Meanwhile, DBL’s Rose Hall Branch Manager Earlene Dawson said her company is delighted to be a part of the sponsorship of this tournament.
She added that DBL fully supports the development of sports in the Region and is looking forward to continue to support these kinds of venture in the future, while they are pleased to learn that proceeds from this tournament will go towards charity.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the event, Alvin Alladin thanked both E-Networks Inc. and DBL for having faith in the event and coming on board and assured both companies that the funds will be spent for the intended purpose.
Proceeds from this event will go towards assisting with the development of sports in the region. First division clubs, Albion and Bermine, two schools and orphanages are to benefit. Consideration is also given to support a young talent in Berbice in the field of culture.
Part of the proceeds will also go towards the rehabilitation of the commentary booth at the venue for Sunday’s matches and the balance will be shared equally by the two organisations to fulfil their social obligations and community work under the ‘Power to Change Programme’.
The organisers wish to notify the public that no coolers will be allowed irrespective of the size and admission to the venue is $500 for adults with children Under-12 admitted free. Popular singer Bunty Singh with his one-man band will be on hand to entertain the spectators.
