DURING the Mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green’s recent media tour in the city, it was highlighted that controlling the garbage situation, traffic congestion, and drainage were fundamental elements in the restoration of Georgetown project.
In the meantime, Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green says that citizens, government, city council and the business community must work hand-in-hand to deal with the garbage problem – it’s the only way.
Green made this statement last Friday when he took media operatives on a city tour, pointing out various sites where more focus needs to be placed for the Georgetown restoration project.
He said that the tour was aimed at assisting the general public, through the media, to understand the magnitude of the situation facing the government and the Mayor and City Council.
The tour went along the areas of La Penitence, Meadowbank, Stabroek, Waterloo Street and Kingston.
Garbage Pileup
Meanwhile, the Mayor said he is very disappointed with the huge garbage pileup along roadways and on empty lots in the city.
This scenario, when compounded with the careless disposal of garbage, causes flooding, which in turn affects everyone in some way or the other, Green lamented.
Green took the opportunity to stop and look around at the La Penitence Public Road and the vacant corner lot which he called the “market dump site”.
According to the mayor, no matter how much the council cleans and sanitizes the place, if people do not stop throwing their rubbish at this site, it will not make a difference and the health hazard that comes with the huge garbage pileup will prove deadly.
