Alleged household thief granted $100,000 bail

TWENTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Travis Benjamin of 52 Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara was granted $100,000 bail when he appeared before Cove & John Magistrate Zamilla

Alli on Wednesday, May 8, to answer an allegation that he broke and entered the dwelling house of Andrew Conway and stole one cologne valued $8,000, two gold chains valued $240,000, four pairs of booths valued $70,000, one pair of slippers valued $6000, one hair cutting machine valued $20,000, one wallet valued $8,500, one pillow case valued $500, one hat valued $5,500, and a quantity of clothing valued $99,500, to a total value of $458,000.

Telling the court he was a miner by profession, Benjamin pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Prosecutor Rushell Alexander did not object to the defendant being granted bail.
The matter was adjourned for May 21 for report.
