The harassment of Ms. Sooba should cease

IT has been a great indictment on the Georgetown public and in particular newspaper readers not to comment on the harassment the Mayor and his clique are meting out to the acting Town Clerk, Ms Carol Sooba.

The Town Clerk resisted giving the Mayor Mr. Hamilton Green a hefty subvention of $9M of city funds to pay the taxes owed on his wife’s property. The basis of her resistance to the Mayor’s demand was that it was illegal and corrupt. She advised Mr. Green that he should secure the ‘okay’ of the Minister of Local Government, since except such okay was secured she would be the one who would be charged for the illegal transaction and pulled before the courts and not Mr. Green. The various political parties are saying nothing about the corruption, including in Mr. Green’s party.
Mr. Green, according to the Town Clerk, calls regular meetings of the staff during the working hours, holding up the work of the administration and inconveniencing the public. These meetings are invariably useless and of no consequence and have no results. Mr. Green ordered one such meeting on “The restoration of Georgetown” shortly after he had had a similar meeting a few days before. The Town Clerk, as an administrator, could no longer countenance this skylarking.
As part of the harassment, the acting Town Clerk is suffering from Mayor Green and his clique is that led by the Deputy Mayor, Ms Patricia Chase-Green.
Ms Chase-Green crudely says that the acting Town Clerk is not academically qualified for the post of Town Clerk, while Ms Chase-Green herself and the vast majority of the Councillors, including Mayor Green himself have little or no academic qualifications. Ms Chase-Green should say what are her qualifications and what are the quality and authenticity of such qualifications.
The acting Town Clerk was able to earn by saving the sum of $83M during the nine months she has been serving, a truly astonishing achievement in a continuously loss-making entity.
Instead of thanking the Town Clerk, Ms. Chase-Green, in complete lack of knowledge of financial administration, is comically indicating that the Town Clerk should have wiped out over a billion dollars of debt Ms Chase-Green and her clique had accumulated over the years. The Minister of Local Government and the various political parties should stop Mayor Green and his Deputy Ms Chase-Green from carrying on their disgraceful comedy.
