THE relatives and friends of a pensioner of Essequibo are keeping their fingers crossed that their loved one, 78 -year old Ritu Gohnshin, will be able to make his way home safely or would be recognised by someone who can reunite him with his family.
Yesterday the man’s daughters and another relative visited the National Communication Network Inc to report that their father has been missing since last Wednesday.
The two daughters said that the man left the home of one of them at Non Pareil on the East Coast of Demerara around 08:00hrs on Wednesday to travel to the other sister’s home in Essequibo, but never reached there. According to the worried ladies, the elderly man left his daughter’s Block 12 Non Pareil home wearing a checkered blue shirt, the very shirt which the man has on in this published photograph.
The man was also was clad in a black trousers and brown shoes. The daughters said that they have since filed a missing person report at the Brickdam Police Station and they are now turning to the media to assist them in putting their story out there in an effort to reunite with their father.
The man’s daughter from Essequibo, at whose home he was expected to show up on Wednesday, said that she became worried after time passed and her father was nowhere in sight nor did he communicate with relatives. She said at that point she began contacting siblings to inform them of what may be the story of their missing father.
The woman confirmed that her father suffers from memory lapses and would wander off from time to time. She recalled a few years ago in Berbice when he disappeared and when the family turned to the media and placed his photograph in the public domain, two youngsters found him and communicated with the family.
