SIMONE Daniels, the expectant mother who is four months pregnant, is still in police custody for the Friday night stabbing of 31-year old Mark Fredericks of Mocha Barnwell North, who later succumbed to his injuries and died on Saturday morning.
Yesterday afternoon a police source confirmed to this publication that the woman who is still in custody will be making her way to court on Wednesday to answer the charge of murder. One police officer said, that while the woman committed the act and the man was still alive after the stabbing, the possibility was there for her to be charged with attempted murder, but they have determined that the charge be murder since the man died as a result of the stab wound.
In addition, the police officer also mentioned that the woman by her own admittance on Saturday told detectives and relatives that she inflicted the wound on the man who attempted to sexually assault her and as such she was forced to defend herself.
But the police are charging the woman with murder in the absence of a pathologist’s report in respect to the cause of death of the 31-year old man.
Meanwhile, yesterday, a senior police rank at an East Bank Demerara Police Station told this publication that since the woman came into the station she has not been taken for any medical attention nor did they, the police invite a medical doctor or any medical personnel to check on the woman’s health since her detention on Saturday afternoon just after lunch.
It was only after they were advised that the woman should be seen by a doctor because of her condition, and the possibility of fluctuating blood pressure which could see her having complications with respect to her pregnancy, that the officer on duty agreed she should be seen by a medical personnel, and promised to put the systems in place and contact the relevant persons to make it possible.
Daniels confessed to stabbing Mark Fredericks on Friday Night after he forced his hands into her underwear and held on to her vagina and proceeded to sexually assault her despite her pleas for him to desist from the actions.
His failure to heed the woman’s cries for him to stop led to her inflicting one stab wound in the region of the man’s heart. However, he did not immediately succumb but was discovered lifeless in his parents’ home on Saturday morning.
An alarm was raised and the police were called in and the woman was arrested for the crime and taken to the Providence Police Station.
The police are still taking statements in relation to the matter since the stabbing took place at a location where persons were having a “Nine Night” celebration.
