EDWARD Isaacs, 32, of Lot 42 West Road, Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, was sentenced to a total of 18 months imprisonment yesterday, by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell, on conviction for simple larceny and break and enter and larceny.The seaman admitted that, on Tuesday, April 30, in Anira Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, he stole a forklift, valued $400,000, property of Monaff Ali. Police Sergeant Alexis David-Hossanah, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant had secured his Anira Street premises when, about 20:30 hrs, he received a phone call that a thief was in the yard and he and his workers, acting on the information received, found the defendant there.
Isaacs claimed he was picking up scrap iron when Ali and his employees took him to Alberttown Police Station.
In the burglary case, it was alleged that on Saturday, April 27, at Robin’s Place West, Bel Air Park, also in the city, Isaacs broke and entered the dwelling house of Michael Rodrigues and stole a quantity of tools worth $136,500, one mixer priced at $20,000, one $20,000 electrical drill, a $15,000 vacuum cleaner, 10 fishing rods with a value of $50,000, a $1,000 raincoat, a $2,000 bag and two shirts, making a total loss of $262,500.
