COME April 26, Miss Guyana Universe, the lovely Ruqayyah Boyer, will fly to St Lucia on invitation of Miss St Lucia Universe and the organisation responsible for its staging there, in an effort to pave the way forward for beauty queens in the Caribbean who will be representing their various lands in 2013.

She will be engaged in a number of photo shoots and meet-and-greet situations with officials there.
The 22-year-old philanthropist, singer, poet, actress and beauty pageant title holder represented Guyana at the Miss Universe pageant held in Las Vegas last December, and has left there an indelible mark for Guyana, being accredited as the best catwalk contestant alongside Miss Philippines and Miss Japan, and as the strongest representative ever sent from Guyana to the Miss Universe pageant. Small wonder why all of the Caribbean is proud of her.
After the pageant, she spent two months in New York, representing Guyana at the United Nations’ Peace Ceremony held at the UN Headquarters in Manhattan, and heating up catwalks during the New York Fashion Week, which saw the beauty queen modelling designs from China, Europe, Guadeloupe, The Dominican Republic and the United States of America.
She was even a virtual guest on the Bet 106 & Park Show, where the young diva chatted with world-renowned actress Gabriella Union about her aspirations.
Ruqayyah’s trip to St Lucia is also set to launch fund-raising efforts for the establishment of the Hope Phoenix Foundation spearheaded by the reigning queen. This foundation aims to battle against gender-based violence in Guyana and around the Caribbean Region. The foundation will be collaborating with the CADVA (Caribbean American Domestic Violence Association), for which Ruqayyah is also an ambassador/spokesperson.
Ruqayyah Boyer was recently elected Public Relations Officer of the Caribbean Youth Environment network (Guyana). She will be engaged in a beautification project at the Soufriere Primary School with the St Lucian Chapter of CYEN during her visit.
