Cadet and Junior TT team pays courtesy call on Dr. Anthony

YESTERDAY, the national table tennis team that recently returned home from the 18th Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships in Trinidad and Tobago made a courtesy call to the Minister of Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, at his office.

altThe squad earned seven bronze medals while copping fourth position in the event, a feat which president of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Godfrey Munroe and Dr Anthony described as successful.
The Minister said “First off I would like to say that you really made us proud with your performance. When you leave to represent Guyana you go as ambassadors and you have the whole country behind you.”
“It’s not easy going up against larger countries with more structured programmes and to do this well, you must be commended,” he said.
He went on to stress about balancing good sport performances with academics and that they have a better chance of doing so since they are still at a tender age, while urging the students to be good role models so other young sports personalities can also focus on balancing both academia and sports.
On a separate note Dr Anthony told the team members there is more in store for them in future because there is nowhere but ‘up’ to go for them, and especially table tennis that, according to him, has developed even more in the past two years.
