THE Enterprise murder trial of Ryan Bacchus, called ‘Rattie’, for the alleged killing of Lakeram Mc Kenzie, called ‘Rambo’, 45, is continuing at the Demerara Assizes with a voir dire (trial within a trial). Justice Navindra Singh is the presiding judge.
The small trial conducted by the judge in the absence of the jury is being held to determine the admissibility of an alleged caution statement which the defence is objecting to on the grounds that it was not obtained in accordance with the judge’s rules.
At the conclusion of the voir dire the judge will decide whether the statements complained about are admissible or not.    
Following this ruling, the substantive trial will resume.
