A TEAM of Jamaican businessmen, led by Mr. Michael Lee Chin, Chairman of Portland Holdings and Mr. Patrick Hilton, Chief Executive OfficerGroup Managing Director of National Commercial Bank, arrived in Guyana Sunday night to look at investment possibilities.
The group, who came at the invitation of former President Bharrat Jagdeo, was met at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Sunday evening by Presidential Advisor, Mr. Odinga Lumumba.
At a media briefing held in the terminal, the delegation outlined the purpose of their visit.
Lee Chin indicated that it was long overdue since he was a student in Canada at the same time with Guyanese, Mr. Richard Van West Charles but never got the opportunity to come.
The visitor said he thinks now is the right time since he has established himself and the company, Portland Holdings, which includes the National Commercial Bank and other companies in Canada and the Caribbean.
He is here to explore opportunities for investing and would be engaging the government and other stakeholders with that objective.
Hilton, who is also visiting for the first occasion, said he is very grateful to have been invited by Jagdeo and will be looking at all the openings that would be presented.
He said his company, which has a large investment in Canada, is now looking to expand in the Caribbean and Guyana is one of the targeted destinations.
Both Lee Chin and Hilton are expected to update the media on their findings before departing.
