THE Interim Management Committee [IMC] of the Anna Regina Town Council has decided that, by April 11, all vending activities on the market road must cease; and vendors wishing to continue doing business must occupy spots allotted to them in the market, or on the shoulders of the road going west from a marked area.
At a statutory meeting held last Thursday, councillors agreed that the situation had gotten out of hand, and have accordingly decided on this course of action. The IMC said that after April 11, the by-laws would be implemented and vendors would be removed by the Constabulary Department of the council. The police will also be summoned.
The occupation of the market road shoulders is a sore issue, and is against the by-laws of the Municipal Act. The IMC has vowed to erase the problem and return vendors to the market.
Moreover, the IMC would be moving to streamline the greens and vegetables’ section of the market, since many vendors have reportedly occupied the tables in that section with clothes and cosmetics businesses.
