ROHEE Goorsahai, 51, of Lot 2 Station Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was released on his own recognisance yesterday, when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman on an unlawful assault charge.
Particulars of the offence said, on Wednesday, March 27, in Station Street, he unlawfully assaulted a police officer acting in the execution of her duty.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, said the policewoman was responding to a report of loud noise when she refused to allow the defendant to throw powder on her, but he insisted on rubbing it on her face.
Goorsahai told the court he is sorry for what he had done and he was ordered to return on May 10.
On that day the Hindu community was celebrating the Festival of Phagwah.
