Corentyne fishermen arrested over false piracy report

POLICE reported that the captain and two crew members of a fishing boat, who are residents of Corentyne, Berbice, have been arrested after they  made a false report of robbery under arms allegedly committed on them on March 12, 2013  off the No. 66 Village Foreshore, Corentyne. On March 13, the fishermen made the false report to the police at the No. 51 Police Station, claiming that they were attacked at sea by five men armed with cutlasses, who took away their catch, gasoline, fish glue and groceries.
During subsequent investigations by the police, the fishermen admitted that they had falsified the report after they had been unable to catch any fish during the trip at sea. (Michel Outridge)
