ROGER Peroune, Ernie Moses, Kristina Cheeks and Tiffany Lowe all swept their categories at the post-Mashramani Karate Championships last Sunday at the YMCA Building, Thomas Lands. Lowe was the first to achieve the feat of winning both the Kata and Kumite in the 12-16 years female group. The only other participant was Kelly-Ann Fortune, who claimed both second-place spots.
Cheeks won both categories in the 17-19 years female as Kimberly Pyneandy and Kimberly Nestor were second and third in both categories, respectively.
Ernie Moses won both categories in the Coloured Belt Adult Males ahead of Silas Moses who was second in both categories and Joshua D’Ornellas third.
The action wrapped up on the day with the Adult Open Males where Peroune was the champion. Patrick Cheeks finished second in both categories. Shane Rahaman was third in the Kata and Lloyd Gibson was third in the Kumite.
In other results, Xavier Pratt, Brandon McKoy and Keyah Barker finished first, second and third in the 6-7 years male Kata, while Barker won the Kumite and was followed by McKoy and Pratt, in that order.
The 8–10 years (male) Kata: Top finishers were Matthew Gurahoo, Ronaldo Lowe and Ilyas Mursalin while Lowe topped the Kumite followed by Gurahoo and Mursalin.
Alexander Cheeks won the 11-13 years male Kata ahead of Tariq Dundas and Mohamid Hamid while Dundas won the Kumite ahead of Cheeks and Ijaz Mursalin.
Shaqueill Agard won the 14-16 years male Kata while Darren Doman was second and Nixon Cheeks was third. The Kumite was won by Cheeks, Agard was second and Doman was third.
