ROSE Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets and Young Warriors Universal DVD have advanced to the final of the 2013 Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/Tenelec Inc. tournament after both easily won their semi-final matches last Saturday. Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets defeated arch rival Albion Community Centre Cricket Club (ACCCC) by six wickets while Young Warriors Universal DVD defeated Port Mourant Karibee Rice by a mammoth 124 runs.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground, ACCCC found themselves in early trouble against the fast bowling of Clinton Pestano (2-7) and Assad Fudadin (2-12) to be 32 for 4 in the 14th over.
West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and national Under-19 player Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai added 56 for the 5th wicket in 18 overs before Bishoo was trapped lbw by Berbice off spinner Eon Hooper for a well-played 43 (4×4).
The remaining batsmen were dismissed for an additional 12 runs as the visitors were bowled out for 100 in 36 overs, with Hooper continuing his outstanding bowling in Berbice, with figures of 9-1-23-5, in support to Pestano and Fudadin.
In response, the home team reached 103 for 4 in just 20 overs, thanks to Rajiv Ivan’s unbeaten 35 (5×4, 1×6) and Jason Sinclair’s 33, while Dominique Rikhi made 15 and Khemraj Mahadeo was unbeaten on 10 when the victory was achieved.
Off-spinner Balchand Baldeo took two wickets for the defending champions, who tried desperately to make a match out of it, but realised the total was too small for them to do so.
At the Cumberland ground in Canje Young Warriors were bowled out for 226 in 44.5 overs as Farouk Hussain blasted 53 with four boundaries, Kevin Ramdeen 62 (5×4, 1×6) and Balram Samaroo an even half-century.
Bowling for Port Mourant Karibee Rice, Devindra Thakurdeen took 2 for 38, but his team never looked like challenging the total as Kevin Ramdeen bowled well to claim 3 for 34 from nine overs while left-arm pacer Kassim Khan took 2 for 15 from 8 overs as they were bowled out for 102, with Devendra Thakurdeen (23) being the lone Port Mourant batsman to offer resistance.
The final will be played at the Albion Community Centre ground, on a date to be decided by the Competitions Committee of the BCB.
