Police theory on Brazilian hotel death is suicide

A POLICE source, who wishes to remain unnamed, has confirmed that no sign of foul play has been discovered in the death of Brazilian miner, Vagno Perriea Alves. He said police are treating the case as one of suicide and have been in contact with the Brazilian Embassy in Guyana about the investigations.
Several staff members and the proprietor of Adventure Suites Hotel, in Forshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, where the body of the deceased was found, have been questioned.
The discovery of the hanging corpse of the 30-year-old was made in his room in the building that also houses ‘Ellen’s Bar’.
It was made on Thursday when employees broke in after he failed to make an appearance for several hours.
Alves, who works as a miner in the interior, had been staying at the hotel from the Saturday before.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed by investigators that the man may have taken his own life after he received a letter from his wife, stating that she had taken a decision to sever their relationship.
The hotel staffers said Alves had owed some money for his occupancy and promised to make the payment by 09:00 hrs that day.
A woman who operates a business in the vicinity said the last time she saw Alves was on Wednesday and he was intoxicated.
