U.S. Embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program donates Computer Equipment – in Berbice

THE  U.S. Embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP) donated computer equipment to the Kingston Development Center and the Darul Uloom Academy in Corriverton, Region 6.

According to a statement from the U.S. Embassy, the team delivered a total of eight computer systems, two printers, and a dual voltage converter to the two institutions on February 25, 2013.  The equipment, which was provided by Spirit of America, a U.S. non-governmental organisation, will help to promote computer literacy in the community, increase educational opportunities, and increase employment opportunity and support the government’s efforts to improve services to Corriverton.
In receiving the donation, Mr. Farouk Mohamed Carter, Principal of Darul Uloom Academy and Mr. Saladin Sadik, the Director of the Kingston Development Center expressed their gratitude to the Embassy and Spirit of America and indicated that they will use the computers for educational development of students and residents, whose ages range from 12-65 years. While this initiative benefits students, it also will enable adult residents to better prepare themselves to meet the job requirements in the growing technological field.
Melanie Collins, Director of the HAP Team in Guyana, in brief remarks highlighted the U.S. Embassy’s support for organisations that work to develop educational and employment opportunities within their communities and provide the best possible opportunity for citizens to achieve their full potential.
The donation to Kingston Development Center and the Darul Uloom Academy is the latest in a series of activities undertaken by the U.S. Embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program.
HAP represents the Embassy in providing assistance to Guyana’s communities in the areas of social, economic and medical development.  HAP works to bring together multiple local and international civic organizations to reach common goals.
