Brazilian charged with forging Home Affairs signature

A BRAZILIAN man appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a conspiracy charge.

Marico Rodrigo Brasil Alves, through an interpreter, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, between June 27 and November 8, 2012, with intent to defraud, he conspired together with persons unknown to forge the signature on a letter, dated September 27, 2012, from the Ministry of Home Affairs, purporting to show that it was signed by Krishna Lekhraj, for the Permanent Secretary, Angela Johnson, knowing it to be false.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, had no objection to bail but requested that the defendant lodge his passport and report to Brickdam Police Station, in Georgetown, every Monday.
The defendant was ordered to post $125,000 surety and the case will be called, again, on April 12.
